Our Story
Let Your Light Shine Jevon Link Society was created in memory of Jevon Link and from a determination to make sure people in rural Nova Scotia have somewhere to turn when they need help.
Remembering Jevon
Jevon Link was born on February 12, 1994, and was a well-known and loved member of his community. He was outgoing, competitive, and someone who built strong connections with the people around him. Friends, family, teammates, and others who knew Jevon remember him for his personality, his sense of humour, and the way he brought people together.
Sports were a major part of Jevon’s life. He was an exceptional golfer and hockey player, and his competitive spirit was evident in everything he did. Many of the events now held in his memory, including the annual golf and softball tournaments, reflect the interests he loved and the relationships he built throughout his life.
Toward the end of his life, Jevon experienced significant mental health challenges. On August 1, 2021, he died by suicide at the age of 27. His death had a profound impact on his family, friends, and the wider community, and it also highlighted the challenges people in rural Nova Scotia can face when trying to access timely mental health support.
In 2022, Jevon’s parents, Louann and David Link, founded Let Your Light Shine Jevon Link Society in his memory. The society’s name reflects a message Jevon shared himself: “Never let someone dim your light just because you’re shining in their eyes.” What began from an unimaginable loss has grown into a community effort focused on helping others find support, connection, and hope.
What We Do Today
Let Your Light Shine Jevon Link Society works to improve access to mental health support and suicide prevention resources throughout Shelburne County and surrounding rural communities in southwest Nova Scotia. The society focuses on making support easier to access locally and helping people know that resources are available when they need them.
Our work includes helping individuals access counselling and therapy, supporting grief groups and addiction recovery initiatives, and offering suicide prevention education through programs such as safeTALK. The society also advocates for stronger mental health resources in rural communities and works to bring important conversations about mental health and suicide prevention into the open.
Community involvement is also a major part of what we do. Throughout the year, the society organizes and supports events such as the Jevon Link Memorial Golf Tournament, Canada Day Fun Run, softball tournament, World Suicide Prevention Community Walk and Gathering, and other local fundraising and awareness events.
Every event, donation, volunteer, and conversation helps the society continue its work. By bringing people together and making support more accessible, we hope to keep Jevon’s memory alive while helping build a community where fewer people feel they have to struggle alone.
Programs & Community Events

SafeTALK Suicide Prevention Training
A suicide prevention training program that helps participants recognize when someone may be thinking about suicide, start a conversation, and connect them with appropriate supports.
Grief Support Groups
Supportive group sessions that give people experiencing loss a safe place to connect, share, and work through grief with guidance from trained facilitators.
Addictions Anonymous (AAA)
Peer-support meetings for people affected by addiction, offering a welcoming and confidential space to connect with others and work toward recovery.
Canada Day 5K Fun Run
An annual community 5K that brings people together in support of mental health awareness while raising funds for the society’s programs and initiatives.
Community Fundraising & Outreach
Throughout the year, the society takes part in local events and community gatherings, offering activities such as popcorn, cotton candy, temporary tattoos, and other family-friendly initiatives while raising awareness and funds for mental health support.
Jevon Link Memorial Golf Tournament
An annual two-ball golf tournament held in Jevon’s memory, bringing friends, families, and community members together while raising funds to support local mental health initiatives.
Jevon Link Memorial Softball Tournament
An annual community softball tournament held in Jevon’s memory, combining sport, community, and fundraising in support of the society’s work.
